2009-2010 Faculty Award Winners
Congrats to the Following Faculty Members:
Dr. Neil Arya was the recipient in 2009 of the Geeta Gupta Award in recognition of his achievements as an outstanding family physician (CFPC member or group members) for his leadership and advanced awareness working in his practice and community to foster respect and understanding of a minority or under serviced population.
Dr. Joe Lee, along with Drs. Moira Stewart and Judith Belle Brown were awarded the Canadian College of Family Physicians 2009 Best Original Research Article Award for the article entitled “Stress, burnout, and strategies for reducing them: What’s the situation among Canadian family physicians?”
Dr. Cheryl Levitt was awarded the Wonca Fellowship: the most prestigious Wonca award. This award is given to individuals who have rendered outstanding service to Wonca and its mission to improve the quality of life of the peoples of the world by fostering high standards of care in General Practice/Family Medicine.
Dr. Seamus Donaghy was named the 2009/2010 Community Teacher of the Year by the Ontario College of Family Physicians for his excellence as a community teacher of family medicine and promoter of these qualities that residents value in their teacher.
Drs. Ieva Neimanis, Nadia Plach, Samantha Winemaker and Kati Ivanyi were awarded 2010 Awards of Excellence by the Ontario College of Family Physicians.
Dr. Les Solomon was named the 2010 Regional Family Physician of the Year by the Ontario College of Family Physicians. This award recognizes the outstanding dedication of family physicians to their patients, their community, their profession and the OCFP.
Dr. Timothy Cuddy won the Jim Morris Award (Clerkship).
Dr. Wilson Leung won the Pre Clerkship award.
Dr. John Pefanis was awarded the Gerry Cohen Teaching Award in recognition of excellence as a role model, teacher and resident advocate.
Mike Spoljar was awarded the Ted Evans Scholarship Award in recognition of his outstanding practice in the four principles in Family Medicine.
Dr. Karl Stobbe was awarded the John C. Sibley Award. This award is presented annually to a part-time faculty member in the Faculty of Health Sciences who has contributed in an outstanding manner to the education of health professionals,
Dr. Karen Trollope-Kumar was recognized by the class of 2010 for her Excellence and Achievements in teaching Family Medicine.
