DAVID BRALEY AND NANCY GORDON CHAIR IN FAMILY MEDICINE

The Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University invites applications and nominations for the David Braley and Nancy Gordon Chair in Family Medicine. This Chair was generously endowed by David Braley, a prominent Hamilton-based industrialist and his wife, Nancy Gordon, a former paediatric nurse. Their donation was subsequently matched by McMaster University. This endowed Chair in Family Medicine has been established with the goal to promote the doctor-patient relationship, communication, collaboration and advocacy.

 
The Department of Family Medicine has many core strengths and is a leader in both education and research, particularly in the area of health information technology and observational research, both of which are part of our strong, rapidly growing research core. Highlights of some of the innovative programs in our department include: Behavioural Sciences, the Art of Seeing, Family Medicine on the Borders, Quality in Family Practice Book of Tools and OSCAR, an open-source electronic medical record developed in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster.
 
The successful candidate will have a passion for scholarship, and will further an established program of academic research that builds on the Department’s primary strengths to further develop doctor-patient communication and research within primary healthcare. 
 
An internationally recognized and highly respected educator, you will have demonstrated success in developing a program of scholarship and provide leadership for the challenges facing community physicians by advocating on behalf of patient needs and services.  You will bring both expertise and passion for improving how we care for, and communicate with, our patients and the rest of the interprofessional health care team.
 
In addition to making a significant contribution to scholarship within the department, the endowed chair will undertake the normal duties of a faculty member. Academic responsibilities will include teaching medical students and residents and contributing to the academic development and administration of the University and hospital departments of family medicine. The holder of the endowed chair will work with the Chair of Family Medicine to ensure integration and harmonization of these goals and objectives.

The initial term for this position is five (5) years, with the option to renew.
 
The Chair is open to family physician candidates, researchers, or other health care professionals. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
