Chair's Corner
A message from McMaster Family Medicine Chair, David Price.
Chair’s Corner (D.Price)
It really feels like spring out there doesn’t it? Even though the leaves are turning colour and falling there is an excitement and a buzz around Family Medicine. We have a number of new teaching units beginning to bud (Kitchener Waterloo, Brampton and not far behind, St. Catharines and Burlington).
We are welcoming new members into our two teaching units and we have brand new preceptors in both the rural and CBRT programs. It really is an exciting time for Family Medicine. As we undergo a rather massive expansion in our residency numbers as a result of the medical school expansion, there are amazing opportunities for us. In the Hamilton Spectator of October 9, 2007, the Dean spoke almost exclusively about Family Medicine. Family Medicine is the hot spot. There are going to be enormous
opportunities as we move forward over the next five years and I believe that our Department is uniquely poised to capitalize on these opportunities. The reason that we are poised is due to the energy, the optimism, the hard work and the skill of all of our full‐ and part‐time members.
I look forward to working with you to take advantage of these many opportunities as our Department continues to go and build on our previous accomplishments. I have no doubt that our Department is going to be known by medical students as the place where they want to go to do their family medicine residency and I have no doubt that we will be providing leadership in areas of research and primary care model development; not only here in the province but across the country.
