Congratulations are in order for two of our faculty members...
Dr. David Price and Dr. Cathy Risdon, who at a recent Senate meeting had their promotion to Professor in the Department of Family Medicine approved, effective July 1.
Dr. Price has been Chair of the Department of Family Medicine since 2006 and currently oversees more than 700 full and part time faculty at sites across Ontario. As Chair, he has overseen expansion of the residency program from 30 first-year residents to a class size of over 70. He was the founding director of the Maternity Centre of Hamilton; is the Medical Director and co-investigator of the Quality in Family Practice program, and was instrumental in helping to create the McMaster Family Health Team.
This promotion represents the hard work Dr. Price has done on behalf of our Department as a builder and innovator and the recognition he has achieved both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Risdon is a family physician and co-director of McMaster Family Practice. Dr Risdon is also the founding co-director and co-creator of McMaster MD Program’s Professional Competency (Pro-Comp) curriculum.
In 2001, Dr. Risdon became the inaugural Chair of the David Braley/Nancy Gordon Chair in Family Medicine. During her ten years as Chair holder, she has made enormous contributions in promoting the idea behind this endowed chair - that excellent primary care depends on the establishment of meaningful relationships not only between doctors and patients but also among all the members of interdisciplinary primary care teams. In 2010, Dr Risdon hosted delegates from across the academic disciplines at the Family Medicine on the Borders conference, a culmination of her work as the David Braley Chair.
This promotion is a testament to the enormous contribution and hard work that Cathy has made not only to our Department, but broadly across the University over the last number of years.
Please join us in congratulating both Dr. Price and Dr. Risdon on this significant achievement!
