ABOUT ACADEMIC CONTRIBUTION HOUR REPORTING

Contribution hours that are important to the Department are contributions to the education of McMaster University learners. At this time any work done with other universities is not reflected in the FHS database.

This department captures and reports contributions that have been scheduled through this office. All other contributions are captured and reported by the Program or Department that scheduled or conducted that educational event (e.g. UG MD Program for the MMIs). If you and a resident, including a Family Medicine Resident, have arranged a ‘Horizontal Elective’ between the two of you and have not informed this office, the contribution hours will not be captured.

Education contributions are reported for a 12 month period. The academic term runs from July 1 to June 30.

All educational activities regardless if they count towards ECPS credit should be recorded by all faculty members. The following statement is taken from the Faculty of Health Sciences Education Dossier document available online.

http://fhs.mcmaster.ca/main/dossier_preparation.html

An Education Dossier is a comprehensive catalogue of your educational activities and achievements. It is designed to provide evidence of educational involvement, commitment, interest and expertise.

Performance in education must be recorded and evaluated so that it can be appropriately recognized. The Education Dossier is intended to facilitate this process. The dossier should contain comprehensive and up to date information on a faculty member’s educational activities. Faculty members are responsible for developing, maintaining, and updating their Education Dossier and are expected to do this as carefully as they record peer-reviewed research activities.
