Tina Karwalajtys, M.A., Ph.D. Candidate

Tina Karwalajtys is an Assistant Professor and Research Coordinator in the Department of Family Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University. Much of her research work has been in the area of primary care and community-based research.
Tina brings a unique set of skills to health research, having completed a Master of Arts degree in English before beginning an MSc and transferring to the PhD program in Health Research Methodology, in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McMaster. She pursued special interests through the completion of an Ontario Training Program in Health Services Policy and Research (diploma), and a national fellowship program in Transdisciplinary Understanding and Training On Research – Primary Health Care (TUTOR-PHC).
Tina’s research interests include community-based cardiovascular health promotion and evaluation; medical record keeping in family practice in Canada; community based randomized controlled trials in family medicine; qualitative and mixed methods; and women’s health. Her PhD thesis work is focused on community-based cardiovascular health promotion for older adults.
