Research Report April 2009

Special Events / Notable Opportunities and Happenings

  • Department pilot project funding: We will be announcing the results of the February 2009 competition in the next few weeks. Ten applications were submitted. Four projects will be offered funding.
  • CIHR Training Grant: New CIHR Training Grant in Medication Safety and Effectiveness has been funded that will be led by Dr. Lisa Dolovich. This 1.7 million dollar 6 year program will fund graduate and post doctoral trainees in the area of medication safety and effectiveness.
  • Future efforts
    • Research support: Over the next six months it is hoped that the department will launch a mentorship program, research awards, and project grants to assist with proposal writing for those who want to write a proposal to CIHR.
    • Linkage across sites: There will be an effort to learn more about the research underway at each DFM site and try to establish collaborations and linkages across sites to take advantage of research capacity across our environment. There will also be some exploratory work done on data collection across sites so that we can work towards scaling up our efforts of translating and evaluating our innovations across sites.
    • Fellowship in medical education research: This position is still open and we would encourage anyone eligible and interested in this position to consider it or please encourage an R3 or colleague. Information is posted on the DFM website.
