- Congratulations to the group headed by Juan Munoz, who were awarded the Outstanding Family Medicine Research Article of 2008 by the CFPC. The citation (and group is): Munoz JE, Miklea JT, Howard M, Springate R, Kaczorowski J. - Congratulations to John Cairney, who was officially recognized as the inaugural holder of the McMaster Department of Family Medicine Professorship in Child Health Research on September 10, 2008. This research professorship will focus on examining the pattern of mental health problems across the life span, as well as the impact of childhood physical disability on psychosocial and physical development in children.
- John Cairney was interviewed for an article, regarding the work done on developmental coordination disorder (DCD), published in the Globe and Mail on September 23, 2008, and a TV interview with CTV news on September 24, 2008.
- Congratulations to Tina Karawalajtys, who recently completed her PhD in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University. Her thesis was entitled: Community-Based Cardiovascular Health Promotion for Older Adults: Development and Delivery of the Cardiovascular Health Awareness Program (CHAP) in Ontario.
- Congratulations to David Chan, who received the Award of Excellence from the Ontario College of Family Physicians.
- Congratulations to John Sellors, whose study on cervical-cancer screening in developing regions, published in the Lancet Oncology, was picked up by the new media, including: Yahoo News and the Hamilton Spectator.
- Congratulations to Sharon Kaasalainen, a recipient of the 2008 Career Scientist Award from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
- An article about CHAP entitled, ‘Education Vital for Good Heart Health’, appeared in the Pembroke Daily Observer on July 16, 2008. The article highlighted the second round of the CHAP program being offered in Pembroke to help in the prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke in communities.

Upcoming event:
Workshop to be held on October 15th, 2008 on the integration of FHT / primary care and community-centred primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke. This will be an opportunity to share experiences in the communities, developing or delivering a sustainable CHAP program, and to discuss ways to improve the integration of primary care and community resources in chronic disease prevention and management efforts in all communities.
