Using Geographic Methods to Examine Access to Care in Auditorium A

This workshop will present methods for measuring distance and travel time to health services. Participants will have time for hands-on experience using these methods in small groups, with both urban and rural examples. The workshop will also cover GIS software, ways to apply a variety of geographic methods, a resource list and a variety of applications to Family Medicine.

This workshops objectives are to share experiences in community-based qualitative research with immigrant women, to reflect on particular issues and challenges encountered in conducting research with immigrant groups and/or marginalized populations, to discuss with researchers and clinicians in the audience potential strategies for addressing the challenges raised and assemble take home message to assist researchers to anticipate challenges and build in solutions when designing similar projects.

Quality Matters In Chocolate -- Why Not In Family Practice in Meeting Room 3/4

We have developed and evaluated a comprehensive Quality Assessment Tool and programme to assist in improving quality in interdisciplinary family practices in Ontario.
Eighty indicators define the key areas in family practice for providing optimum patient care.
Three family practices to review their progress.

Cluster Randomization Controlled Trials; Design and Analysis Issues in Meeting Room 5

This will be an introductory-level workshop providing an overview of the issues in choosing and planning a cluster-randomized trial. Topics will include reasons for using this method, choice of appropriate randomization method, practical aspects of planning a trial, calculation of an appropriate sample size and analysis issues. Participants will form groups to discuss a hypothetical trial design and will have the opportunity to try some sample size calculations. Participants should bring a hand calculator.
