Family Medicine Undergraduate Education

Undergraduate Family Medicine is a vibrant part of medical education at McMaster.

McMaster University's Department of Family Medicine has performed strongly in terms of the university rank order list.  Evidence of this is that the Family Medicine Residency Program has doubled over the last 10 years and close to 50% of our graduates chose family medicine as a career path.

Through the Family Medicine clerkship, students will gain knowledge of common mandatory and unique health care problems in primary care, learn how to approach the undifferentiated problem, appreciate the concept of coping with uncertainty, recognize the value of time as a diagnostic and therapeutic modality, and become familiar with opportunistic intervention and preventive care.  These opportunities will arise in the context of long-term relationships with patients and families across a breadth of health care issues.

Six weeks in Family Medicine will provide students in clerkship with a rich experience and perspective that will position them to be effective health care providers in any and all branches of medicine. Welcome to Undergraduate Family Medicine.

Dr. Jonel Miklea
Undergraduate Program Director
